D&B Landscaping Services, in collaboration with Aniascape, delivered a showstopping backyard patio design at this year’s Unilock Awards of Excellence Best in Show.
“He was very knowledgeable about what he wanted. He would look at the samples with his wife, and help us try to put the pieces of the puzzle together,” noted Manuel.
The homeowner envisioned a sprawling backyard patio with design elements reminiscent of classic Miami resort-style paving. To bring this vision to life, Ania utilized Unilock Uvision 3D Landscape Creator to craft the initial design plan.
“This home boasts three garages, two fire tables, and multiple entertaining spaces, so 3D visualization was absolutely essential,” explained Ania.
“I initially experimented with 24 x 24 or 18 x 18 tiles in a diamond pattern, but it wasn’t giving the right look,” shared Ania. “So, utilizing only the XL size, we were able to hone in on that feeling the homeowner wanted without requiring many cuts or angles.”
Beacon Hill XL units were laid in a stacked bond pattern along the patio, offering a uniform and minimalist design that exuded sophistication. During installation, it was decided to use Beacon Hill units for the step risers leading to the upper patio instead of a wall product, ensuring a cohesive light color throughout.
On the far end of the patio, two fire tables, crafted using U-Cara Smooth panels in Granite Fusion and topped with Architectural Coping in Charcoal, provide warmth and ambiance to those near the pool’s edge, while a line of beach lounge chairs offers a relaxing spot to unwind and enjoy the serene atmosphere.
All three products selected for this project were manufactured using EnduraColor™ technology, boasting a refined surface texture that resists the appearance of fading over time, ensuring greater durability and vibrant color that lasts for years.
To complement the darker hues of the home’s roof and windowpanes, Architectural Coping in Charcoal was chosen to crown the step edges, adding visual contrast to the lighter hues.
Along the upper patio, an outdoor kitchen was constructed using U-Cara® with a Smooth finish in Granite Fusion, seamlessly blending with the home’s support beams. Multiple bar stools provided additional seating along the grill island, while an outdoor dining area sits adjacent to the home, illuminated by hanging lights, offering a cozy space for al fresco meals. Nearby, a lounge couch faces a built-in TV wall, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living spaces.
Reflecting on the project’s completion, Manuel highlighted how its success was driven by the diverse experiences each participant brought to the partnership.
“When all team members – the contractor, homeowner, designer, and Territory Manager – collaborate effectively, it truly feels like a win-win-win situation,” concluded Manuel.
Ania echoed his sentiment, highlighting the homeowner’s trust in the team, which played a crucial role in realizing the design vision.
“I think knowing that with that confidence if a problem were to arise, we have plenty of people to rely on to be able to solve it. That makes our jobs easier.”
